After Easter, the Junior room learnt all about Belgium for their European country project. They spent lots of time in S.E.S.E learning all about where Belgium is, the languages they speak, their currency, and their neighbouring countries. We also looked at lots of different parts of their culture such as traditional clothing, favourite foods, activities to do in different cities and famous Belgium people. We started to learn about what the European Union is, which countries are part of the union and where the headquarters are.

In Art, we looked at the artist René Magritte and his interesting surrealist paintings. The Juniors loved posing for their photos while wearing a bowler hat and then picking an object to stick over their face, just like Magritte’s ‘The Son of Man’ oil painting. We also created our own versions of his famous eye painting by drawing lollipops, shapes and Peppa Pig as the background.

For Europe day, we welcomed the parents into our classroom to share all of our learning with them. The Juniors enjoyed showing their parents their projects and fantastic artwork and showing off all the facts they could remember. We dressed up in traditional Belgian outfits and ate lots of Belgium foods like chips with mayonnaise, waffles and chocolates. The children enjoyed walking around the Senior Room to see all that they had learnt about their European countries and sampling some of the delicious food.
