Today, St. Thomas’ were off in search of some pumpkins! We were very lucky to be blessed with some lovely autumn sunshine too. We travelled to ‘Alright Pumpkin’, pumpkin patch in Fordstown, Navan, Co. Meath. When we arrived, we were greeted by Natasha and Farmer Tom who take care of the patch.
We started off in the corn maze. There were some super-sized spider webs to climb through and long tunnels to crawl through too. When we made it to the end, we spotted some goats, hens and pigs. There was a big tractor made from straw, which we spent lots of time climbing up on. Farmer Tom brought us out on a real tractor afterwards. We sat in a trailer filled with straw bales and we drove past some beehives, sunflowers and round bales of hay.
When we returned, it was time for a spot of lunch. We headed to the tent for our lunch and once we were finished, we jumped into the corn pit. Some of us may corn angels, got buried in corn and even collected corn in our boots! We also got to play on a slide made from a very big pipe.
Farmer Tom invited us back to the tent where we had hot chocolate and Farmer Tom told us about the history of pumpkin carving. We were invited to go and choose our own pumpkins from the patch. We took off with our wheelbarrows in search of the best pumpkin. It soon turned into a search for the largest and heaviest pumpkin, but unfortunately, some didn’t quite make it! We were spoiled for choice with orange, green and white pumpkins, as well as a variety of shapes and sizes. We had so much fun exploring the patch.
We waddled our way back to the bus, pumpkins in our hands, muddy boots on our feet and smiles on our faces. A big thank you to Natasha and Farmer Tom at Alright Pumpkin for a fantastic day.
