What a busy month it has been in the Junior Room!
There were Policemen, Policewomen, Roman Soldiers and angels in attendance in the Junior Room, along with appearances from Mary and Joseph! The children, both in the Junior and Senior room, were doing lots of preparation for their Christmas play in the run up to the show, practising songs, learning actions and rehearsing lines for their roles in ‘Straw and Order!’.
The children showcased their Christmas Play on the 16th December in Rathowen Community Hall for parents, families and friends. They put on a fantastic show and made everyone very proud. Santa Claus even popped by to congratulate the children on their performances. He was so impressed, he had a gift for all the boys and girls of St. Thomas’, as well as any other children present. Thank you to Santa Claus for taking time from your busy schedule to come see us!
Parents, families and friends were invited back to the school, to enjoy a cup of tea and coffee and some festive cheer. A massive thank you to the pupils for their hard work and co-operation; to parents for their continued support from home and helping to rehearse lines and lyrics; to staff that worked behind the scenes to organise costumes, props, sound equipment and daily rehearsals; to Rathowen Community Hall for the use of their stage and to Bridget, for multiple lifts in the bus to and from the community hall in the days leading up to our Christmas Play. Thank you.
Amidst all this, the Junior Room enjoyed decorating their classroom in the lead up to Christmas. They spent some time one morning decorating their Christmas tree, and they decorated it beautifully.
The Juniors enjoyed some Christmas themed play time, with a Small World Christmas village and a Christmas Sensory tray. The children also enjoyed Role Play in the Christmas Post Office, writing Christmas cards, letters to Santa, wrapping presents, sticking stamps on envelopes, weighing packages and delivering cards too.
The boys and girls also made some beautiful Art work, using various media to create Christmas trees. The used a combination of sponge painting, oil pastels and sparkle to create their intricate pieces.
Lauren kindly organised some delicious Christmas baking with the Juniors. They were busy making tasty cupcakes, as well as ‘Melted Snowmen’ biscuits! What a treat! Thank you Lauren.
On our final day of term, before the Christmas holidays, the children enjoyed a morning of Christmas festivities. They enjoyed some Christmas themed play time, they opened some gifts that were left under the Christmas tree, had a Christmas tea party and watched a movie! A well-deserved treat!
A Very Merry Christmas to the Junior Room and their families!
