Happy New Year! Here in the Junior Room we welcomed in the new year the best way we know how – with lots of Art!

To kick things off, we started with some simple finger print craft to create ‘2023’ pictures. We chose bright colours and applied them randomly to represent the beautiful fairy lights we have enjoyed over the Christmas period.

Then we all had to put our thinking caps on to remember our favourite moments from 2022 and all that we have achieved. We loved looking at photos from the past year to remind us of the wonderful things we get to do at St Thomas’. Once we had finished looking back, we looked to the new year and made some resolutions including ‘do more baking’ and ‘try my best.’

Finally, we used mixed media to make a New Year’s Eve skyline. We used chalk, smudging it to make bursting fireworks, and used paint to create the buildings in silhouette. We think they turned out fantastically, even if we did get very messy with the chalks!

The children also got to take part in Puzzles as part of their Aistear during the first week back at school. Ms. Mills hid lots of different pictures of New Year around the classroom. Everyone really enjoyed working on their own to find them all and tick them off their “I Spy” sheet. It got a little bit competitive but in the end we all helped our friends!
