This month the Junior Room have been learning all about the ‘Ice Cream Parlour’. The role play area was transformed into our very own ice cream parlour, complete with lots of different flavours of ice cream and plenty of toppings to choose from. Everyone really loved the role play area this month and got into character as either a customer, a cashier or scooper. There was lots of team work happening in the ice cream parlour, along with opportunities to practise counting money and giving change, following orders, as well as practising simple conversation between two people. Lots of creative ice creams and decorative toppings were made during playdough. In small world, our wooden house was transformed into a contemporary, stylish ice cream parlour, complete with a modern terrace for dining! In construction, both Lego and Mag-Snaps were used and impressive Ice-Cream Parlours were built. One had expanded into a machine that made its own ice-cream, modern dome/ pod seating areas and an upstairs seating area complete with a stage for entertainment! The children enjoyed some Puzzles this month too, looking for cartoon characters that ordered certain flavours of ice cream. Once they found all the hidden characters, they had to use the little images underneath each picture to decode the flavour they wanted. The children also prepared a recipe for Summer Fruit Smoothies and made some smoothies for the class to enjoy. They were very refreshing!
