Ireland celebrates all things Irish during Seachtain na Gaeilge in the two weeks leading up to St. Patrick’s Day. In the Junior Room, the pupils work hard all year long on improving their Irish and learning words and phrases along the way. In fact, am Gaeilge (Irish time) is one the children’s most favourite times of the day! The Juniors have been learning and practising simple words, phrases and instructions since September and they use them daily. Seachtain na Gaeilge is about promoting our native language and culture. Over the past two weeks, we all have been making a conscious effort to use our Gaeilge more often and we have even been helping Lauren to learn a few words and phrases too! We hope that this continues even after Seachtain na Gaeilge has finished.

On the 16th March, bhí Lá Glas againn. Tháinig gach duine ar scoil gleasta ina n-éadaí glas. (Everyone came to school dressed in their green clothes). We also collected money to support the Fleadh Cheoil which is happening in Mullingar this year. Go raibh mile maith agaibh! The Juniors looked fantastic in all their green and beautiful hats and face paint. The Junior Room listened to the story of St. Patrick, about who he was and why he is so important to Irish culture. Lauren kindly baked shamrock biscuits for us and we got to decorate them with green icing, chocolate, shamrocks and rainbow sprinkles and smarties! They were delicious! It would have been rude not to finish the melted chocolate too! The children created a lovely St. Patrick’s inspired craft. They painted a circle in beautiful rainbow colours before Ms. Mills cut a swirl into the circle and they stuck some shamrocks along the rainbow and a pot of gold at the end. During playtime, the Aistear tray was filled with green rice, gold coins, pots of gold, shamrocks, green and yellow pompoms, tweezers, scoops, leprechaun hats, cups and much more. They Juniors played freely with the resources and hid ‘treasure’ in the rice for each other to find.

Beannachtaí na Féile Pádraig oraibh!
