We have been looking at myself and houses and homes as our theme for the month. In S.E.S.E. we have been talking about the members of our family, explored the story of Hansel and Gretel and learned about different types of homes.
In Aistear, we built houses in Construction using different materials including large wooden blocks and Lego. We used the dolls houses to create pretend play around the theme of the home. In water play, we gave the babies a bath as we undressed, washed, dried and redressed the babies – we had so much fun! We looked for furniture hidden in rice and sorted them into the rooms you would expect to find them in the home. We were busy doing some digging and gardening outside too. We made furniture in playdough and went into role as family at home in role play. There was lots of cooking, grocery shopping, washing dishes, preparing meals and laundry to be done. They even had to move house at one point!
For Art we have looked at the work of Paul Klee and created cityscapes. We learned about colour and making lighter and darker shades of a colour. We also made some patch work houses by collaging a variety of different patterned and textured papers.
In P.E. we focused on the Fundamental Movement Skill of Walking for the month. We had scavenger hunts, puzzles to complete and a walking trail. What a busy first month back we have had!
