On Thursday 2nd March, the children of St Thomas’ donned costumes to celebrate their love of reading for World Book Day 2023! A much-loved day in our school calendar, the children in the Junior Room had a wonderful time being interview by Ms. Mills as their characters, sharing who their character was, what they were wearing and a bit about what story they were from. This year we were joined by ‘Luna’ from Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, ‘Willy Wonka’ from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, a ‘chef’ from Busy Café, ‘Greg’ from A Diary of a Wimpy Kid, an ‘engineer’ from Roadworks and a ‘fighter pilot’. It was great to see a mixture of characters from both fiction and non-fiction books this year. Throughout the day, the whole school enjoyed stopping what they were doing to read, and also writing about their chosen characters and stories.
Not wanting to be left out, Ms. Mills and Lauren dressed up as Alice in Wonderland and The Mad Hatter to host a tea party. Featuring treats made by the Juniors themselves in Aistear, Ms. Mills laid on an incredible spread including sandwiches, fruit and juice out of tea cups! The whole class loved eating off china plates and drinking from real cups and saucers so much, they chose to stay inside for their tea party instead of going out to play. We cannot wait to see what next year’s World Book Day holds!
